Illness as a language of the soul
Illness is the language of our soul. Body, mind and soul are an inseparable unit and therefore always influence each other. If we look carefully inside ourselves, we will see that our thoughts cause feelings and that these feelings are followed by physical reactions. For example, fear can cause heart palpitations, shaking and sweating. What we think about and what we feel always influences our physical well-being. If our soul suffers, our body suffers as a result.
Our body still reacts to anxious thoughts caused by apparent threats in the same tried and tested way. If there is apparent danger, our body automatically releases stress hormones that prepare us for two courses of action: flight or fight.
These stress hormones put our bodies on alert. But nowadays we usually don't have to fight wild animals anymore, but would perhaps like to tell our boss or colleagues what we think. However, if we don't relieve the tension and stress hormones through action out of fear for our jobs, but instead remain in a kind of fear-feigning paralysis (playing dead reflex), this will make us ill in the long run.
Dealing with illness in our ‘Western’ world
Unfortunately, in our culture, illness (physical or mental) is in most cases not interpreted as a warning signal from the organism that something is out of balance, nor is illness seen as something meaningful at all. Rather, it is seen as a more or less random, but always negative, intrusion into our lives.
This attitude often results in the doctor and patient joining forces against the symptoms of the disease and simply trying to get rid of it as quickly as possible. However, symptoms are never the cause (root) of an illness, but merely its expression! Therefore, eliminating symptoms is not a cure.
Once we have (really) understood that illness is the "mouthpiece" of our soul and we have learned to listen, we will recognize where the imbalance that causes the illness comes from. Where am I not living in harmony? Where am I acting against my own inner wisdom, against my wishes and, above all, against my needs? Where do I lack the courage to love myself and to follow my own path lovingly? Where have I not resolved an internal and external conflict?
When we bring mindfulness into our lives and ask ourselves these questions, the symptom of the illness is given meaning. It is taken seriously as the language of our soul and not simply fought against and switched off.
Once again: every physical event is an expression of an underlying psychological content or conflict. If we only eliminate the physical symptoms of the illness, the psychological problem (cause) remains untreated. The symptoms return, appearing again and again in the body until we also include the core, the cause, in the treatment and thus enable a lasting, holistic healing.
Holistic therapy
If we consider the above, it becomes clear that the first two pillars of health are personal responsibility and awareness. If we want to get healthy, we must start to take responsibility for our health again and learn to receive and interpret the signals from our body. Most of the time, our body shows us very clearly what we need. We just have to learn to listen carefully again, take the signals seriously and act accordingly.
It is also necessary to pay attention to the other basic pillars of health and not to underestimate their effect: healthy nutrition, relaxation (stress reduction) and exercise. These basic elements also form the basis for physical and mental health and long-term therapeutic success. No matter which "pillar" you start the healing process with, the others will be promoted automatically. A synergy effect is created that takes your whole life to a higher level.
In order to become healthy in the long term, it is important not to avoid the challenges and conflicts in our lives, but to understand them, solve them and grow from them. This is a prerequisite for restoring our physical health as well as our emotional, mental and spiritual balance. I would be happy to support you in this process with care and love.
